Roben Kosek Jazz & Blues: Bio

Roben/Kosek Jazz & Blues

Roben/Kosek Jazz & Blues is a duo of Terri Roben, singer/player, and accomplished jazz guitarist, MaryAnn Kosek. Or a trio, with Brenda Fisher on upright bass. Or a quartet, with Paul Devino joining the trio with his drums.
We specialize in 1920's - 1960's jazz & blues, with selected Antonio Carlos Jobim pieces.
We hope to find many venues to perform our music and are in the process of making a recording of our favorite songs.
We have over 100 songs in our repetoire as a duo/trio/quartet.
We have played in Albany's Tulip Festival, Saratoga's Dance Flurry, corporate events, local restaurants and bars, libraries, cafes, and private parties. We would love to play at your event and establishment!

MaryAnn Kosek - Guitarist

MaryAnn Kosek began playing guitar and piano at an early age. Her father was an accomplished local jazz guitarist/bassist who influenced her desire to learn and play jazz. She grew up listening to the old standards from the 1930’s and 40’s. MaryAnn began playing guitar at nursing homes and eventually joined a few local bands, playing country, 50’s, 60’s, Beatles, blues and popular songs. She plays and writes music for the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center for their children’s programs, and also collaborates with other professional local musicians at various venues.

Her underlying love of early jazz brought her to a new project with her music partner, Terri Roben, who has performed in the Capital District of NY for many years. Together they have teamed up to play mostly early jazz, blues and some contemporary music. MaryAnn also plays piano, banjo, ukulele and mandolin but focuses mainly on guitar.

Terri Roben - Vocalist, Children's Music teacher

She has produced three recordings, "Terri and Maria", with Maria Caccavo; "Riverwalk & Other Songs" a cd of original children's music; and "The Path We Make", a cd of mostly original songs, featuring accompaniment by The Ramblin Jug Stompers, Sten Isachsen and Gail Smallwood. She has taught and performed in various schools and family programs and developed after-school and library programs for elementary school-age children. She also played in a trio, "Dangerous On Decaf", performing jug band, rockabilly, folk, blues, pop and Latin music. Roben/Kosek Jazz & Blues is her latest preoccupation and she is thrilled to play with fab guitarist MaryAnn Kosek!

"Around The House Music" is the business name for Terri Roben's family music, bringing music for children and their caregivers to libraries, festivals and other family-oriented events.
She leads sing-alongs and play-alongs with several instruments and spreads out small percussive instruments for group playing. Give her a call or send an email if you would be interested in having her come to your library, pre-school or festival.
